CRASHED AND BYRNED – The Tommy Byrne Movie

* “The greatest racing driver you never saw!

GENRES – True Story / Drama / Comedy / Action

A true story of ambition, rebellion, hope, redemption and humour.  And the high human cost of chasing glory in the fastest and most dangerous sport on earth.

In the early 1980s TOMMY BYRNE achieved the impossible and meteorically rose from the wrong side of the tracks in a small Irish town to the pinnacle of Formula One racing.  He overcame unimaginable odds to defy an elitist system designed to keep “people like him” out. Despite Tommy’s incredible innate talent and unparalleled lap times, industry powers such as McLaren’s RON DENNIS overlooked Tommy in favour of the more polished AYRTON SENNA DI SILVA.

A razor-witted kid with ADHD, empty pockets and a heart of gold, Tommy was born in the back of a borrowed car on the way to hospital. From day one there was just no stopping him and his career burned brightly, albeit too briefly. This living legend is undoubtedly the greatest racing driver you’ve never heard of – until now.

After decades of rumours, and the more recent shocking discovery of sabotage, the life of Tommy Byrne is about to be set straight.

The feature screenplay is based on interviews with Tommy and on his critically acclaimed  autobiography. Crashed and Byrned is a page-turner packed with honesty and humour and it won the William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year in 2008.  A successful TV documentary entitled Crash & Burnwas released in 2016 on Amazon Prime.
