Set in Liverpool, 1987, Simone grew up believing she was abandoned aged 3 by her biological father, Jian, a Chinese Merchant Seaman, who signed up to the British merchant navy and served throughout the World War II. Following the death of her stepdad she finds a photograph of Jian in her mothers’ attic. On the back is a message: “With love.” Haunted by dreams of Jian and desperate to know what became of him, Simone embarks on a search for her father and uncovers more than she had imagined.
